Equality Day 2023 – Join us on Feb 20 in Helena



Take your activism from your phone or computer to the halls of the Capitol! Organizations in the Free & Fair Coalition are joining together to help you talk to legislators more confidently. February 20 is Equality Day in Helena.

We’ll start the day at Plymouth Congregational Church at 400 S Oakes St. in Helena, where we’ll have a simple continental breakfast (pastries, coffee, and water). Here’s the schedule for the day!  

Schedule 

9:45-10am – Meeting at Plymouth Congregational Church for breakfast and mingling – Light breakfast provided. 

10:15-11:00 – Lobbying training with Central House Strategies  

11:30 – Leave for Capitol  

11:30-1:00pm – Lobbying at the Capitol and lunch on your own

1:00 pm – Floor Session at the Capitol 

1:30-2:30pm – Workshops at Plymouth Congregational (all-ages friendly activities will be available) 

3pm (optional) – Testify at a hearing for SB 315, which would provide comprehensive sex, gender, and sexuality education in public schools. 


You can head home after the workshops and hearing, or you can join the Montana Human Rights Network for Pints for Human Rights at the Blackfoot Brewing Company from 5-7:30 pm. The brewery is located at
66 S Park Ave, Helena. 

Workshop details 

10:15-11am – How to effectively lobby your legislators, presented by Central House Strategies 

1:30 (ish)-2:30 pm – Choose from these workshops:

  • How to be a good ally to LGBTQ+ community members, presented by EmpowerMT

  • Queer & trans joy, presented by Forward Montana

Note: This event is not affiliated with any religion or religious entity, but we will be spending much of our day at Plymouth Congregational Church near the Capitol. We recognize that many LGBTQ+ community members have suffered trauma at the hands of religious institutions, and will do our best to ensure that this is an affirming, brave space for attendees.
